Maternity Photoshoots
Where to Begin
Planning is everything when it comes to maternity clients.
I love when clients are ahead of the curve and understand that babies have an entirely different timeline than what anyone has planned.
During consultations we talk about when the mother is due, what are their plans for birth, and what are the plans for the family down the road.
Before looking at a location or outfits, we start with dates. The ideal time for maternity clients is obviously the 3rd trimester, but let's try to narrow it down between 26 and 32 weeks. You really don't know when that little one is going to make their debut, even if it's "planned", anything can happen.
Timing this just right is crucial to mom, everyone has a better time when they are comfortable this allows everyone to be truly happy and show off that precious bump.

I freeze moments, turning them into memories that last a lifetime.

Let's make your moment curated to you and your story just the way it is right now
Having my clients feel comfortable in this moment of their journey is what makes these images come out so beautifully. Each person's portrait will be different from season to season, and I am here to help my clients show off the glory of the family they are creating. There is beauty in the snow, the ice, the flowers, the sun, the autumn leaves, but the peace, confidence, and joy show through with every pregnant body.
Anyone who has been pregnant can tell you walking long distances and getting up off of the floor is nearly impossible past 29 weeks.
When you think about a maternity portrait do you have a particular image in mind? Outfits, locations, family members are all important and I love going through all of those details with every client.
Listening to your dreams and what makes you feel confident and empowered is what brings out the best in every maternity session.
When it comes to getting dressed, I always want my client to be comfortable. However, sweatpants and track suits are laughable for a short time. Meanwhile, coordinated outfits will last the test of time. If that means you have an outfit at home, want to buy your own, or have me rent you a gown or other clothing, I can make it work for you. Feeling confident is the goal in mind.
The next parts are all in the details, would you like to have accessories like sonagrams, onsies, shoes, bows, ties, and so on. Just like wearing a statement piece of jewelry, adding small details to your images brings everything together. The pieces allow me to tell your story in a more clear and custom design, making every portrait study unique. Thus, making your portraits one of a kind.

What happens during and after your time in front of my lens?

Let the fun being and the art takes off
We've talked through our consultation, there's a date, time, location, wardrobe. We've talked about who is going to be included and who will be missed at this session. I've gotten to know your family in our time together, and I'm just as excited as you are to meet your little bundle.
We meet up at the location, and we are all excited to begin. I give a gentle suggestion to our first couple of poses, and we go through really simple, standard images in order to get those out of the way, in case something happens down the road (looking at you older siblings).
Then as I check off boxes and get through the chosen, important images, we can start moving towards the fun and exciting images that are rarely done or haven't been done before. Throughout all of our time together, I'm checking in frequently to make sure that your pregnant body is doing well and not being stressed or over worked. Do you need a break, a drink, or a snack? What about the kids? What about your spouse or other family members on site? These are the little things that make our time together enjoyable and comfortable. How do I deal with the littles during these sessions? Read my blog on how sessions with little kids work.
