Client Consultations

When talking with clients it's important to understand their goals with any session.

Are these first-time parents? Is this their last child? Is their oldest going to college soon? Has it been a while since their last family session? Have they EVER had a photo session?

These are important questions to ask every client. This allows everyone to be on the same page and have a greater understanding of what expect on the day of the session. I walk into every session with the goal of creating an image and creating artwork they can look back on years from now and appreciate it again and again.

Location, Time, Date

What time does the sun rise today? What about sunset? The distance between a sunset in July versus a sunset in November in Montana is 5 and a half hours.

What about the location, does it have mountains? That cuts sunsets by an hour in some locations.

Is the river high or empty this time of year? These questions are pivotal to each of my sessions throughout the year, and I'm more than happy to learn so much about Western Montana with the world around us is always changing. It makes every session unique from the lighting to the weather, and the backgrounds.

The joy of photography

My favorite part of photography is when everything comes together. The weather is just right, the colors pop, the outfits blend in all the right ways. The toddlers aren't crying, yet, and the spouses are still willing participants.

After all the work I put in to getting a beautiful set up, clients are put at ease when they feel like they have been put into a beautiful backdrop. The lighting is just right, and the views can be calming or exciting. (For this particular session, we found a toad and the older kids had an absolute blast showing it off to the family).

I love location scouting, I'm always looking for new places. Being invited into people's homes is an absolute honor for newborn sessions, our beautiful public lands are incredibly important to me, and downtown offers such a uniqueness that only the city can bring.

Showing the beauty that is Montana is such a pleasure and brings about such a sense of pride and responsibility within me. I hope all of my clients feel this sense of wonder and amazement duing each of our sessions.

How often should you get family photos done?

Step 01

Large events

Between children being born, and graduation, there are many years between, it is recommended that every 3 years photos of your family should be updated. But why not do it every year? Especially when your children are little.

Regular updates

If it's a birthday, anniversary, kindergarten graduation, these are times you can plan and prepare ahead of time. Give your family a heads up to family session that you have planned for everyone. No one likes a surprise photo session, even children.

Before it's too late

Please don't let time pass you by, I have had people tell me how they wish they had taken the opportunity to photograph their family before it's too late.
